Sentencing of the Defendants
Many of the defendants declared that they were just following orders and that they were innocent. Others questioned the authority of the court to pass judgment.
On October 1, 1946, the judges announced the verdicts. 18 of the defendants were found guilty while three were acquitted. 11 of the guilty were sentenced to death by hanging, the remainder received prison sentences ranging from 10 years to life.
